Alfred Pennyworth was the butler and security guard of Bruce Wayne. A friend of his late father Thomas Wayne, he took over legal guardianship after he and his wife were murdered. When Bruce became the vigilante Batman, Alfred reluctantly helped him investigate the circumstances behind his parents' murder and later his war on crime in Gotham.

History[]

Early Life[]

A veteran in the Royal Marines, Alfred became associated with Thomas Wayne during a mission in the desert. At one point, he saved the billionaire's life, though lost the lower-part of his right leg in the process. Thanks to a prosthetic donated by Thomas, Alfred was able to walk again. It is implied that they shared a secret during the mission. At some point, Alfred joined an unnamed security firm in Seoul. Whilst there, he fathered a daughter with an unnamed woman.

Some time into his campaign for mayor, Thomas hired Alfred as his head of security after a number of death threats were made. Investigating the situation, Alfred dug up information on his opponent, Oswald Cobblepot. Arriving at their home, he met with Thomas and Martha. Worried about their lives, he tried to dissuade them from going to see a movie, even arguing to take him along. Thomas declined, leaving Alfred at the Manor.

After Thomas and Martha were murdered by a criminal, Alfred met with the officers in charge and offered his help. Though declined, he learned that both Waynes had made him the legal guardian of their son, Bruce. Though he tried to argue against it, Alfred reluctantly agreed to take on the role, with the other Wayne and Arkham members dead, and the only option being foster care. To soften the blow, he claimed to Bruce's new butler.

Taking residence permanently in Wayne Manor, Alfred took over Bruce's care, claiming to be his new butler. He also trained Bruce in martial arts and hand-to-hand combat, hoping he'd use it to protect himself. Alfred also collected foreign sets of armor and stored them in the house. As time went on, he lost hope that Thomas' murderer would be caught.
