Gotham Knights is a video game developed by WB Games Montreal and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Windows Operating Systems. Unlike previous Batman video games, it focuses on the Batman Family as they protect Gotham in the aftermath of Batman’s apparent death. The game was released on October 21, 2022.

Summary[]

After the death of Batman, Gotham turns to a chaotic city with no rule or help from the GCPD, especially since the loss of Commissioner James Gordon. In order to save Gotham from becoming more of a hellish breeding ground for criminals, the Batman family of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin will join forces to save the city them and the Dark Knight swore to keep safe. while also investigating what happened to Batman that led to his death. At the same time, the group come into conflict with the Court of Owls, a secret society who have controlled the city for years without their knowledge.

Gameplay[]

In Gotham Knights, the player will control a member of the Batman Family during the game. Each character will be able to scale obstacles though acrobatics or their grapnel launcher. Additionally, each member has access to a variety of gadgets and equipment, such as Nightwing having a glider called the Flying Trapeze, Robin being able to access the Justice League's teleportation systems, and Red Hood having access to a mystical force through his resurrection. Each member will also be able to travel the streets with a Batcycle and quick travel using the Fast Bat.

Combat will pit the players against groups of enemies. Each character will be able to perform melee attacks and ranged attacks. To avoid damage, the player will need to dodge attacks, though the character can recover health through medical kits in their utility belts. Additionally, some abilities can be used in combat, such as Batgirl being able to use drones to attack her foes. The Knights will also need to investigate areas through detective work, during which they can use their AR vision to gather clues. Players will also be able to join others' games in 2-player coop, allowing them to patrol Gotham and undertake missions together.

The player will also be able to visit the Belfry, where they can change character and upgrade equipment. Some missions and story moments will require them to visit it to investigate further. The player will also be able to customize the Bat-Family's costumes, including adding perks and changing their appearances. However, such functions often require resources gathered throughout Gotham City.

In addition to the main game, the player will have "Villain Crimes" campaigns, where they will go up against a supervillain in Gotham. Such examples include Mr. Freeze and Harley Quinn. Additionally, random crimes will take place throughout Gotham, which the player can stop. Stopping these will grant the players resources and rewards.
