"Topsy Turvy" is the tenth episode of the first season of The Batman.

Plot

Batman investigates a crime bearing the stamp of his arch-enemy The Joker, despite the fact that Joker is currently and has in fact remained locked up in Arkham Asylum since Batman first put him there after his first defeat in The Bat in the Belfry. From watching Joker, Batman deduces that the Joker means to "card" fifty-two people to complete his twisted deck; subsequently, he visits the Joker's last known hideout to search for clues. There, he is attacked by the Joker, only to discover after a quick battle that "Joker" is an impostor - an Arkham employee whom the real Joker had intimidated into carrying out his dirty work. The real Joker had been locked inside Arkham all along.

Upon learning this, Batman infiltrates Arkham and confronts the Joker in his cell, demanding to know his endgame. The Joker, however, overpowers him and locks him inside the cell, and leaves to complete his revenge scheme at the abandoned Gotham Palace Theater. Batman narrowly avoids being discovered by disguising himself as the Joker, and escapes at the first opportunity to hunt down the Joker.

At the Gotham Palace Theater, the Joker has taken the future subjects of his card collection (including Detectives Bennett and Yin) captive, and shows them their ultimate fate: to be flung into Gotham River to drown. Shortly after he "cards" Detective Yin, however, Batman arrives and begins to battle with him. While Bennett helps chip Yin free, Batman defeats the Joker with a decisive punch that puts the madman into his own weapon's line of fire, trapping the Joker inside a slab painted - fittingly enough - to resemble a Joker card. Batman later returns to the Batcave and says he is tried of dealing with Joker cards.
