Gotham City Impostors is a first-person shooter multiplayer-only video game set in the Batman universe. Developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Games, the downloadable game is played from the perspective of two teams each trying to kill the other: one with people dressed like Batman and the other with people dressed like his archenemy, The Joker. It released on Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, Microsoft Windows and Steam on February 8, 2012.
An interview with one of the producers was released in late 2011. He revealed that there is a very deep character customization options, including weight, height, and even voice. The team that you are on, be it the Jokerz or the Bats, is randomly chosen. The game types are what you would expect from an online game, varying from your typical Team Deathmatch, to more creative modes, such as a gametype called Psychological Warfare, where the two teams fight for control of a large battery. You must deliver the battery to your base, powering up the loudspeakers across the map. Depending on who is winning, you can expect to either hear encouragements, or amplified taunts. The final gametype is called Fumigation, where you must smother the opposing team in, depending on which side you are on, Joker Gas, or a swarm of bats.
For transportation, there are many ways to get around the map, such as glider wings, grappling hooks, spring boots, and rollerskates. As for weapons, there are the usual knives and guns, but one may also use more unconventional weapons such as grenade-like jack-in-the-boxes, and rocket launchers made of PVC piping. There are three different rifles, two SMGs, three heavy weapons, three sniper weapons, two shotguns, two launchers, one assistance weapon, twelve support items, and seven gadgets to customize your character.
There are 5 different maps as of launch date: Gotham Power, Crime Alley, Amusement Mile, The Docks, and Ace Chemical Plant with more coming in future DLC.
The most recent update added several things. These include a new map, titled the 25th Floor, which takes place on the roof of a Hotel, two new weapons, a pistol titled the Kingmaker, and a katana, which is usually a one hit kill, and several new paintjobs and challenges. It also adds jump in matchmaking, fixing the underpopulated game server problem.
