Scarface is the name given to one or several ventriloquist dummies used by the Ventriloquist. The puppet personifies the Ventriloquist's dissociative identity disorder, which often acts as the violent personality in counter-balance to the villains' typically more timid one. Scarface typically resembles historic gangster Alfonzo 'Al' Capone (nicknamed Scarface) and is often personified as a 1920s gangster. It has been used by the Arnold Wesker and Peyton Riley iterations of the Ventriloquist.

History[]

Origins[]

The puppet that would become Scarface was carved out of the Blackgate Penitentiary gallows by an inmate called Donnegan. Named "Woody", the inmate used him to perform for the other prisoners. When Arnold Wesker was imprisoned, he shared the cell with Donnegan and Woody. Apparently urged to by the puppet, Wesker murdered Donnegan. During the stuggle, Woody was scarred. Through the puppet, Wesker began projecting a more violent personality inspired by 1920s film gangsters. Dubbed "Scarface", it would join the Ventriloquist in during his criminal activities.

Television[]

DCAU[]

Scarface appears alongside the Ventriloquist during Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. The puppet is continuously destroyed throughout the episodes, though is regularly recreated by Arnold in Arkham's arts and crafts. Scarface is finally destroyed in "Double Talk" when Wesker shoots it into a fan. However, one of the puppets is seen displayed in the Batcave during Batman Beyond, though it is unconfirmed whether it is a puppet the Ventriloquist used or a replica.

Justice League[]

In the Justice Lords universe, its Ventriloquist can be seen holding Scarface in Arkham Asylum's lobby. The puppet is shown to have lobotomy scars, implying that Scarface may have its own personality/entity.

The Batman[]

In this series, Scarface is given the look of a more contemporary appearance gangster, partially based on Tony Montana from Scarface.

Gotham[]

Titans[]

Scarface makes a cameo appearance alongside the body of Arnold Wesker's Ventriloquist in a reality conjured by Trigon.
