One of the Zellers Commercials.

In the mid-1980s Canadian department store chain Zellers released a series of commercials featuring Batman and Robin. The animation is based heavily on John Higgins's coloring in Killing Joke as well the line art of Brian Bolland to a degree. Tonally they are more reflective of the Dozier live-action show, directly referencing many aspects of the 1960s show. An archival soundbite of Cesar Romero from the show was actually used for the Joker's laugh. DC was eager to license the character for the commercials as they would heavily promote their products, gearing up for the big-budget Warner Brothers movie that was fast devloping at the time.

Plot[]

The plot of these commercials features Batman and Robin being told in the Batcave that one of the villains of Gotham City is "ripping off" one of their customers with expensive prices for their toys. So Batman and Robin come in and scare off the villains and mentions the LAW OF TOYLAND which basically means if there is a lower price on one of the toys that Zeller has somewhere else, they will match it or go lower. They continue to advertise Zellers and the ad ends.
